Dr. Johan Shed Light On Change Of Selangor Home Venue Issue

UiTM Stadium has been named as the home venue for Selangor when the CIMB Liga Super Malaysia resume this 26th August. According to FA Selangor Secretary-General, Dr. Johan Kamal Hamidon, the change of venue happened to give more time for the association to evaluate the current situation of the Stadium Shah Alam, upon hearing the restoration plan by the stadium management.

“FAS don’t want to be in limbo and we decided to play at a different venue to allow more time and space for Stadium Shah Alam to be in better condition. What we try to avoid is we do not want a situation when, as the Liga Malaysia is being played, suddenly the restoration of the stadium takes place,” he said during the latest interview.

Dr. Johan also explained that the decision was also influenced by the advice by Majlis Keselamatan Negara (MKN) and Malaysia Football League (MFL) that the M-League will be played in an empty stadium.

“At first, we do intend to finish the remaining fixtures for the 2020 season at Stadium Shah Alam because we already sold the season pass to our fans, but MKN and MFL have announced that M-League will be played in a closed stadium, we took an early decision to move out early because providing seats for our fans is no longer a priority for this time being,” he added.

For the following season, the association hasn’t made a conclusive decision yet as the state government is evaluating few proposals to restore Stadium Shah Alam dan still left in dark regarding the exact date on when it can be completed and the stadium ready to accept fans again.

At the same time, FAS is considering using MBPJ Stadium as their temporary home venue for the 2021 season, at least until Stadium Shah Alam has finished it’s restoration process.

“I understand the feelings of the fans that dreaming of having our own home venue, but there are a lot of things that Selangor needs to improve and develop. The stadium is one of our main agenda, but it requires a lot of resources and time as well as a detailed plan,” Dr. Johan explained.

“We don’t want to make a conclusion in a hurry. I hope that the fans can give FAS time to make proper research, to understand and find capital to build our own stadium,” expressed Dr. Johan before ending the interview.
